The Role of an Educational Psychologist
The role of an Educational Psychologist is to render assistance to children and their parents, in order to overcome a variety of problems and challenges.
Assistance with the following problems are offered:
- Learning difficulties
- Concentration difficulties (ADHD/ADD)
- Behavioural difficulties
- School readiness
- Subject choices
- Emotional problems, such as anxiety, depression, trauma counselling, divorce care, death in a family.
The process usually is as follows:
- Parents/Guardians are seen in order to gather background information.
- The child is seen for either a therapy session or a psycho-educational assessment – depending on the need.
- Feedback to the parents/guardians.
- Written reports are done on request.
The practice is contracted in with the most medical aids, and medical aid tariffs are charged.

Die rol van ‘n Opvoedkundige Sielkundige is om hulp te verleen aan kinders en hulle ouers, ten einde ‘n verskeidenheid van probleme en uitdagings te oorbrug.
Hulp kan gelewer word op die volgende terreine:
- Leerprobleme
- Konsentrasieprobleme (ADHD/ADD)
- Gedragsprobleme
- Ouerbegeleiding
- Skoolgereedheid
- Emosionele probleme soos egskeidings, trauma, angstigheid, depressie, dood
- Vakkeuses
Die proses verloop as volg:
- Die ouers/voogde van ’n kind word eers gekonsulteer, ten einde agtergrond te bekom.
- Die kind word gesien vir ’n terapeutiese sessie, of vir ’n psigo-opvoedkundige evaluasie – afhangende van die aanmeldingsprobleem.
- Terugvoersessie met die ouers/voogde.
- Skriftelike verslae word op aanvraag gedoen.
Die praktyk is ingekontrakteer by die meeste mediese fonds en mediese fondstariewe word gehef.
